Southwestern Bedding: A Trip To The Southwest. Part 2

A trip To The Enchanting Southwest

As a lover of southwestern and Native American art an culture one of my favorite galleries and artists is J.D. Challenger.

J D Challenger Giclee

Add Wall Art to your bedroom decor

A true grand master of Native American paintings. Stepping into his gallery is a inspiring experience with his paintings and of course the studio. I did not have the good fortune of meeting him, he was in Scottsdale for a show the week I was there. Hopefully on my next trip he will be home.

Art of all type can be a great addition to decorating your bedroom retreat and is an element that should be considered. It can range from decorative rugs to table art like statues and decorator lamps to wall hangings. Original art can be expensive but worth the investment.

A Giclee (pronounced “zhee-clay” ) can be a fine alternative as they can have the look and feel of originals at a fraction of the price.

There is a lot to see and a walking tour is a great way to go.
Museums can offer incite into decorating ideas and one that comes to mind that can offer tremendous value for southwestern art and decor is the Millicent Rogers museum.

A display of Millicent Rogers clothing and jewelry.

The museum has become one of America’s most important resources for the study of southwestern art and design.  Today the museum is a public, nonprofit, educational institution, supported by its membership program and sponsors

The drive between Santa Fe and Taos is beautiful with great canyon views and panoramic vistas.

I could go on and on and will in other posts. But it is getting late on this Sunday night and I need my beauty sleep, so I am going to crawl in bed under my southwestern bedspread.

Anyway as you can tell I do love the style of the southwest. So it only stands to reason that I have southwestern bedding and western bedding as well.

I was able to find some incredible bedding collections, duvet covers and comforters at Quality Bedding Sets.com.

Southwestern Bedding: A Trip To The Southwest. Part 1

A road trip to the Southwest.

The enchanting southwest, we talked about it the last time. I had the extreme pleasure of a road trip to Santa Fe and Taos last month. What a trip! It was so beautiful. The Rio Grand Gorge carving itself right through the high desert plain, the history of the Taos square.

Captain Hernan Alvarado and his conquistadors first arrived there in 1540. Tiwa Indians are believed to have settled the valley around 1350 A.D. Taos was first colonized by Spain 1615

The old Saint Francisco Church built in 1816.

When you walk into the church it’s hard to explain the spiritual wonder that consumes you. It is a simple church but it is magnificently grandiose. And one of the most painted and photographed churches in the U.S.

I was quite awe inspired the whole time I was in the region. The wonderful architecture, the grand valleys, such a magnificent part of our wonderful country. And there is a lot to do, the excellent restaurants, the galleries, the canyon and museums.

The southwestern culture gives a lot of inspiration in creating your southwest bedroom retreat that will include bedding decor ideas, southwestern accents and a beautiful southwestern bedding collection.

When we are thinking old west, were does that inspiration come from?

Nature is a good start with wood and leather or hide, maybe fur or faux fur if you prefer make handsome accents. A couple other elements we want to add are rope and metal. Then we have ranch living and Native American culture thru festivals and pow wows.

You can find inspiration in magazines and some of your favorite westerns. You can find great decorative items at second hand stores, antique stores, flea markets and garage and estate sales.

I would also suggest getting your core items first (Furniture and Bedding) and then your accent items to build around the core.
