Southwestern Decor
Our first discussion will be southwestern.
Southwestern home decorating can be characterized by earth tone colors, rough textures, handcrafted objects and brightly colored woven fabrics and tiles.
The Southwest style has these and other elements:
Southwestern Colors:
An attractive southwestern room typically will showcase a traditional palette of earth tone walls or light pastels of yellow or green with accents of colors like adobe red and desert-toned neutral hues. Blasts of bright yellow, dusty orange and turquoise giving a Southwestern design feel. I found the image at Sources+Design.
Southwestern Fabric and Textiles: Woven fabrics, leather and suede in various weights can be used for bedding collections and upholstery. Serapes or southwestern throws can be used as wall or furniture accents.
Rustic Furniture: Leather, micro Suede or a heavy woven fabric is commonly used to cover sofas and over stuffed chairs, auto-mans and dining chair cushions. Pine is a common choice in wood furniture, which also features distressed finishes, hand forged handles and knobs with conch, leather and paint accents.
Accents: You may use a variety of pottery, paint decorated ceramic pieces of Mexican roots that adds color and design interest to southwest decor. Hand-painted tiles can be used on walls, floors, counter tops and wall hangings.
The use of wrought iron accessories such as coat racks, floor or table lamps and basket racks are always a welcome accent. Cactus and succulents always add warm and interesting feature to many of your rooms.
Hand woven baskets give a decorative appeal to kitchens on the counter with vegetables and small decorative items or above the cabinets or even hung on walls separately or in a wrought iron display rack.
